Here the challenge was to refit an existing outdoor play area as an all-weather area that would be fully useable throughout the entire school year. The solution was the installation of a full drainage system and a synthetic grass surface.
Queensmill is linked to Goldhawk Road Adults’ Day Centre, where we also provided an outdoor fitness area which could be used by both adults with learning disabilities and older pupils which had recently left Queensmill School.
Active Landscapes had the pleasure of working with Queensmill school again and this time in partnership with the team from the Hammersmith and Fulham’s adult services. The outside area needed a big overhaul to provide additional facilities in line with the evolution of the centre. A large amount of clearance workers were carried out removing old trees, sheds and other items prior to the ground preparation for the gym equipment, hammock, storage shed and synthetic grass. Within a very short and fixed timescale Active Landscapes were able to complete all the works to the delight of our client and prior to a very successful open day.
St Agnes needed us to replace an aging ball court with a modern MUGA, a synthetic grass surface and cross-court pitches. The new MUGA offered improved safety and lower maintenance, as well as versatility as it could be used for a variety of sports.
We provided 2 different installation for Underhill. The first was an all-weather early years play area with a synthetic grass surface (enabling all year use). The second was the installation of a bonded rubber surface and multi-unit in the children’s centre, with several tactile and mobility-enhancing pieces.
Northside had a vacant grass area, that was under utilised due to the boggy ground. We installed a large MUGA with synthetic grass, base works and a drainage system. The MUGA consisted of 4 separate ball courts, and was perfect for PE lessons afterschool clubs and break time.
The old multi-unit which had been in place had reached its life expectancy and as such a cost effective, robust and attractive alternative was required. Active Landscapes were able to supply and fit this new multi-play within budget and the clients timescales, including the relevant safer surfacing.
This was a large & complex project. It involved the removal of a large canopy and fence line, relocation of a fence line incorporating drainage and landscape works, the supply and install of a new canopy around three sides of the school and finished off with new tarmac and thermoplastic graphics.
The original timber fence dividing the early years from the rest of the school was rotting and impossible to see thorough which made monitoring children difficult. The school also required a larger hardstanding area for the bike track and the old tarmac surface to be revitalised with a new wearing course and colourful markings.
We sourced a 45m long clear canopy that was able for the most part to be supported without any columns blocking the play area, unlike the previous one the roof was also transparent but filtered out harmful UV light. The relocation of one fence line reclaimed over fifty meter square of otherwise unused ground, combining this with the new tarmac overlay and graphics transformed the area completely.
After working closely with Plaistow Primary school on a large project earlier in the year Active Landscapes were selected to carry out the design and build for the completed redevelopment of their early years play area. The project consisted of considerable groundworks, installing a drainage system and regulating the levels followed by the installation of a stunning new play area featuring mounds, planting areas, a lockable sand shed, tunnels with a bubble viewing area and may other landscape and traditional play items.
The Islington Council – Next, we were called upon to provide the Borough with 2 outdoor calisthenics fitness areas. We worked with the local community to define the need for very durable and low-maintenance equipment that could work with a wide variety of exercises in a very small footprint. The installation of both sites took a total of only 8 days, including surfacing.
The Islington Council needed to refurbish and in some cases replace entirely their aging housing estate play areas. We were required to install modern, low-maintenance safety surfaces and all new playground equipment, all within a very limited budget.
Following the installation by others of an embankments slide with steps the system used to secure the mound was not sufficient for the level of use and as such the mound eroded at an accelerated rate resulting in large ruts and the area being decommissioned due to health and safety concerns. Our team were able to reconstruct the mound using a more robust system, top dress it and then finish it off with interlocking grass mats to ensure it would not suffer a similar fate in the future.
Places for people is a huge name in property and leisure management, and they needed us to completely refurbish multiple housing estate play areas. We were able to re-use the existing bases to save costs, and provide high quality Robinia wood equipment which improved resident pride in the facilities substantially.
